BMW ADVICE ON RUN FLAT TYRES
Can I repair the punctured tyre? BMW recommends that a Run-flat Tyre is not repaired as additional forces and wear have been incurred within the tyre whilst being driven deflated.
Could I repair a non Run-flat Tyre? BMW also recommends that non Run-flat Tyres are also replaced and not repaired, as it is difficult to know exactly what damage has been caused to the tyre once deflated or when the damage was caused.
BMW recommended tyres
Certain makes of tyre are recommended by BMW for each tyre size. They are marked with a clearly visible BMW designation star '*' on the sidewall of the tyre.
When properly used, these tyres meet the highest standards in terms of safety and handling characteristics. BMW only recommends the fitment of approved wheel and tyre combinations, as non-approved wheels or tyres may make contact with the vehicle body due to impermissible tolerances, even though they are the same size.

Puncture repair

If you have a puncture, Healy First Stop Tyre specialists are there to check the tyre for you and to fix it professionally and safely.
What can I do to prevent a puncture?
The vast majority of punctures are not preventable, but following can help to reduce the risk:
- Regularly check the treads on your tyres for imbedded glass or foreign material.
- Make sure your tyres are always inflated correctly and don’t forget to check the spare tyre as well.
How do I know something is wrong?
In case of slow air leakage this can be either visually detected (tyres shows lower profile than other tyres on the car) or felt during driving (handling behaviour is gradually changing).
In case of sudden air loss, one immediately feels a loss in control. Try to slow down while steadily holding the steering wheel and stop immediately to replace your tyre.
If your car is equipped with a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), the system alerts you as soon as there is a drop in tyre pressure of one of the tyres.
In case your car is equipped with Run Flat Tyres, you can still control the vehicle when there is a sudden loss of air pressure. RFT tyres allow you to move the vehicle at limited speed for a limited distance.
What should I do when I think I have a puncture?
For sake of safety and to avoid further damage of your tyre, wheel or car, one should best have the tyre checked as soon as possible. Pull over, replace the tyre with your spare and head to your nearest First Stop dealer.
If you have Run Flat Tyres however, the reinforced sidewall of the run-flat tyres makes sure you can drive on for about 80 kilometres, at a maximum speed of 80 km/h.
We do however advise you, also in case of a Run Flat Tyre, to consult the nearest tyre dealer (ideally a First Stop dealer) to have your tyre repaired or replaced.
How many times can a tyre be repaired?
Before attempting a repair, consult the vehicle owner’s manual for restrictions. The vehicle manufacturer may restrict the use of repaired tires on its vehicles.
Whether or not a tyre can be repaired is subject to the damage and location of the puncture. For safety reason only a puncture in the tyre tread should be repaired, never the sidewall.
Always have it repaired by a specialist. The First Stop specialists are professionals. All repairs are done according to the strictest safety guidelines.
Can all punctures be repaired?
No, not all problems can be repaired. That’s why it’s so important to have it checked by a specialist. If the puncture is located within the tread area, the tyre can usually be repaired. If the puncture is located on the tyre’s shoulder or sidewall areas however, it should not be repaired.
If it is impossible to repair the punctured tyre, the Staff at Healys First Stop Tyre Centre will advise you on which new tyre is needed.

Goodyear Efficient Grip Wins Best Summer Tyre
The Award follows the EfficientGrip being named the Best Buy in Auto Express publication’s Summer Tyre Test in September 2012.
Commenting on the Award, Goodyear Brand Manager Michelle Fisher says:
“We’re really excited to win the Best Tyre award - not only is it a great endorsement of our product, but it’s a testament to our on-going innovation and drive to bring high performance tyres to market that never compromise on safety.
“The EfficientGrip is a great example of this commitment - a strong performing tyre that combines fuel efficiency without compromising on handling in wet and dry conditions.”
This year Goodyear launched the EfficientGrip Performance and EfficientGrip Compact with the aim of offering a range of tyres to suit all European road car needs. From the EfficientGrip SUV, introduced last year to serve the larger car market, through the Performance, Goodyear now meets a significant percentage of Europe’s total car park needs in HP and UHP with a single branded product.
EfficientGrip Performance is currently available in 39 sizes and comes with a BA EU-label rating in 21 of the 23 sizes. While the EfficientGrip Compact, designed to serve the smaller car market and offered in sizes ranging from 14 to 16 inches, comes with a European tyre label B for wet grip and a C for rolling resistance in 85% of the total range.
“These latest additions to the EfficientGrip family demonstrate our belief in the superiority of this product - which is why it’s great to see our belief being mirrored by a leading industry title like Auto Express,” adds Fisher
